Paris Hilton is back in the studio to record her sophomore release.
Following the unlikely announcement that she intended to embark on a career as a house dj towards the end of last year, the Hilton heiress has decided to bail on the decks in an attempt to relaunch her pop career. Rumoured romantic interest and White Isle favourite Afrojack is, in her own words “actually executive-producing the entire thing”.
“There are a lot of very cool collaborations on my album.” she claimed in a recent chat with a New York Post gossip columnist, “It should be out in the next few months. We just finished doing my single with Lmfao, then I’m recording with Snoop Dogg,”
If her previous attempts at musical success are anything to go on, no doubt this album will be a slammer…

Back in November I managed to steal Andy Carthy aka Mr Scruff away from setting up for his show at Potterrow, Edinburgh, for a quick chat about his music, touring and tea.
An absolute gent I’m sure you’ll agree, and a very wise one at that. This is what he had to say.

The MPC has always been the piece of gear for beatmaking, an absolutely essential and legendary piece of kit used by the likes of Dilla, Madlib, Moodymann - and practically everyone else. However, since digital audio and software based studios came along, despite the unique MPC sound - people have tended to move on and use other bits of kit which are more practical nowadays.

A stellar FACT mix from UK house music innovator, Bob Bhamra under his newest alias, West Norwood Cassette Library - producer and self-titled label owner deservedly coming to the fore with his raw and distinctive sound.
This one has really had me grooving - a whole host of beautiful dubplates and the Karenn tune “Chaste Down” from their debut (which I reviewed last week).

After talk back in September of two R&S badmen - Pariah and Blawan (collaboratively known as Karenn) starting a label together, I have finally managed to get my hands on the first release. Offering only the words “SHEWORKS001 - Cooked Up in Glasgow, Cut in Berlin” on the inner sleeve, and a rather kitsch streetlamp print on the flip which spills onto the otherwise white label, when I found it in Beatdown Records, I was immediately intrigued.
